Twitter is filled with messages from those looking forward to Elden Ring, most featuring hilarious reactions to Elden Ring not appearing on Gamescom ONL. There are many people joking that Fall Guys Season 2’s Medieval theme is what Elden Ring is now. Several tweets feature sad pictures of skeletons, a common From Software meme. Even the ever-popular From Software Youtuber Vaati Vidya joined in, posting a gif of Dark Souls 3: Ashes of Ariandel’s Father Ariandel screaming.

To make clear, the vast majority of those posting about Elden Ring are doing so in a self-aware manner. There was no realisitic expectation of Elden Ring making an appearance at Gamescom ONL, but it is an opportunity for fans to let From Software know how excited they are for the game and how anxious they are for new information. Such a passionate fanbase isn’t going to let such an opportunity pass by without making the most of it.

If there’s one community that’s taking the lack of Elden Ring news seriously, it’s the Elden Ring subreddit. Sadness over the lack of news has peaked, as the top-voted entry in the community is arguing that it’s best the subreddit now focus on Bugsnax instead of Elden Ring going forward. Perhaps the saddest aspect of the subreddit is the still stickied link to Elden Ring’s E3 2019 trailer.

As for whether From Software fans actually have any hope of a reveal or announcement soon, it’s difficult to say. Either Microsoft or Sony would absolutely love to showcase the game, and both are guaranteed to have more events soon and throughout 2020. The question is whether Elden Ring is far enough in development that it’s ready to start sharing more information. From Software’s release pacing is all over the place, so a 2021 or 2022 release seems likely but isn’t certain. Fans will, as they’re used to, simply have to wait.

Expect to hear more about Elden Ring from From Software only when the game is ready. The studio is clearly investing its all in the game, even forgoing Sekiro DLC. When more Elden Ring is shared, it’ll be worth the wait.

Elden Ring is in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
