It was during a recent gameplay preview that Elden Ring showed off many of its systems, both new and familiar. Among these were open world traversal on horseback (or riding something that looks like a horse), a mechanic similar to bonfires, camps of enemies, and boss battles. Now a new boss has been shown off in a new video.

All the recent news about Elden Ring only showed off bosses in brief glimpses before, but this newest video shows the battle from start to finish. The boss in question is called Margit the Fell Omen, and he challenges the player on a bridge in the middle of a castle. Margit bears a striking resemblance to the boss shown off in the gameplay demo, Godrick the Golden, being huge but mishapen, with antlers growing from his face and a massive scorpion’s tail.
As for the battle itself, Margit’s primary weapon is a huge, gnarled walking stick wielded as both a club and a spear. But if players learned nothing else from the Elden Ring gameplay preview, they learned bosses usually have something else hidden up their sleeves. In Margit’s case, it’s the ability to conjure offhand weapons of light, from throwing daggers to swords and even a massive warhammer. Most of the weapons swing fast and hit hard, although in the video in question the warhammer never actually lands, as it’s very slow. Presumably it would flatten the player character like a pancake.
On the player side of things, a few interesting distinctions shine forth. First, the weapon of choice: a double sword reminisceint of Darth Maul’s lightsaber from Star Wars Episode I. The player also had a hilariously tiny buckler shield that, despite its size, allowed for easy parrying of Margit’s weapons. It looks funny, but very effective. It’s tough to determine which of the Elden Ring classes this was, but it may not matter in the long run.
One of the most interesting parts of the fight was Margit’s final words to the player, implying that Margit will continue to pursue them and telling them to “fear the night.” What exactly this means is unclear, but it seems to imply that Margit will return later for revenge. Considering this fight was shown off in the Elden Ring closed network test, perhaps Margit shows up later in a section the beta doesn’t cover.
Elden Ring releases February 25 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
