The trick isn’t exactly the kind that would work across every open field in Elden Ring, although it can be used in most dungeons and boss arenas.

The specific gesture in question is “point up,” which is one of the first ones that players start the game with. In order to make this gesture look like a selfie, all the player has to do is line the camera up against a wall or other structure and push their character forward to fill the frame. When the player gets the angle just right, the gesture pushes the character’s arm outside of view and gives off the impression that the camera is in their outstretched hand. It isn’t exactly a true photo mode in Elden Ring, but it does look like one.

In the pictures shared by the original poster known as Limgrave on the Elden Ring subreddit, the player shows off a few characters that appear to be portraying the in-game people known as albinaurics. With pictures of these outfits both taking the selfie and standing normal, the gesture adds a bit of character to the screenshots as they turn toward the camera and bask in these locations. It’s a small addition that gives a sense of style to playing Elden Ring through only a simple gesture.

Without a dedicated photo mode, these tricks can sometimes be the only way for players to mess around with different ways to take screenshots. Considering how much effort went into the designs of Elden Ring’s toughest enemies and most fashionable armor, it is a surprise that the best way to take pictures like these is to find workarounds with gestures and level geometry. Still, screenshots like these that utilize something so simple to completely rework a picture just goes to show the ingenuity of Elden Ring players as they overcome whatever obstacles the game throws at them.
