What makes this Elden Ring dungeon so difficult is the fact that players do not only have to deal with the pesky Imps usually found underground, but also some Burial Watchdogs. These enemies normally serve as bosses at the end of dungeons, so the fact that they serve as regular obstacles in these Catacombs can make the area a chore to get through. Unfortunately, they proved to be too much to handle for Reddit user soyunrobot, as the Redditor found themselves stuck within the Giants’ Mountaintop Catacombs for “too long.”

Eventually, the Reddit user resorted to the powerful Elden Ring sorcery Comet Azur, a spell that many have utilized to get through difficult areas. As shown in the clip, this new approach seemed to be working for soyunrobot. After hitting the approaching Watchdog with some regular comets, the player backs up and refills their FP. Seizing the opportunity to deal some real damage, the Redditor switched to Comet Azur and began charging up the blue beam of light. However, this decision proved fatal.

While the beam lands and decimates the health bar of the Burial Watchdog, it also has an unfortunate side effect. With the beam going through the bodies of the enemies it hits, it raised the frost pillar that was behind the Watchdog. Unfortunately, soyunrobot was unaware of this, so they ran forward believing the fight was over. Sure enough, the frost pillar activates, and though the Elden Ring player attempts to roll away, they are killed before they can escape the trap.

Devastating clips often perform well on the Elden Ring subreddit, so it is hardly a surprise that this video has received over 2,200 upvotes. In the comments, many players consoled the Redditor and agreed that this dungeon was a pain, calling out the unpredictable movement of the Burial Watchdogs. Others provided advice, like Siggs84. According to this commenter, the Redditor should lure the Watchdog in front of the frost pillar before using one of Elden Ring’s Shackles to trigger the pillar from a distance, letting the trap eliminate the enemy. Given how the trap ruined their best run, though, soyunrobot may not be eager to activate it again.

Everyone who has played a FromSoftware game has likely experienced a tragic death of some kind. However, there is nothing worse than causing one’s own death, so soyunrobot’s frustration is completely understandable.

Elden Ring is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
