AFK farming is a means of continuously acquiring runes, Elden Ring’s currency, by using Torrent to reach an otherwise unaccessible area and hiding there. Subsequently, using Taunter’s Tongue will allow Bloody Fingers to invade their world, but given use of Torrent is disabled in PvP, the invader is unable to reach the host. The intention is to force invaders to leave, or fight Blue Hunters, which grants a number of runes to the host, meaning in theory that they are able to go AFK, enjoy their day, and return to a bounty they can level up with.

In a video uploaded to Reddit by u/CaptainIkag, the player character is seen invading, their blood-red figure curiously approaching a tree near the edge of Mohgwyn Palace, a late game region of Elden Ring. PvP is rather popular in this location because of the befitting environment for confrontations, and the high level requirement to progress through it. However, this host has decided to AFK farm, and the invader has a hunch as to where they may be. Skillfully jumping up the tree, the invader proceeds to use a glitch with the Waterfowl Dance skill to float towards a nearby rock formation. What follows is a repeated pattern of platforming, followed by the glitch, in order to access an area that Tarnished are not supposed to reach.
Once finally at their destination, the host is indeed there, perpetually walking into the formation ahead of them. The invader takes a second, no doubt proud of their efforts, before jumping to attack, and ending the host’s pitiful game of hide-and-seek. Comments celebrated, particularly enjoying the inclusion of a brief cut halfway through to show the invader destroying a hunter that dared to try and disrupt their parkour. Others mocked the host for attempting to go AFK in an area famous for one of the most lucrative rune acquisition methods in the entirety of Elden Ring.
And that is the crucial detail about AFK farming; it only works in theory. In practice, it does nothing other than bully, irritate, and waste time, with little to show for it. Elden Ring players have developed entire arsenals dedicated to ruining anyone who would dare attempt this pointless vacuum of fun, making use of the otherwise seldom seen Jar Cannon to blast AFK farmers from their delusions of safety.
Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
