As Elden Ring speedrunners are constantly setting new records in completing the game as fast as possible, any tricks that might let them become Elden Lord quicker are seen as incredibly valuable. Now, one Elden Ring fan has discovered a quick but tricky way to get into Leyndell, the Royal Capital. Usually, the gate to Leyndell is only accessible to players who have collected two Great Runes and visited the Roundtable Hold.

However, one Elden Ring player has found a way to Leyndell through what they term the “back door.” This trick is shown in a short video and has the Elden Ring player standing with their feet pointed against two cracks on a platform. They then proceed to walk off the platform while drinking from their flask. Due to using the Ruptured Crystal Tears, one of many Tears that can be placed into Elden Ring’s Physick Flask, the player does not die from falling when walking off the ledge and instead bounces off the floor in an explosion.
This trick requires some specific placement and timing, with the Reddit user who found it stating that wearing no armor can be helpful for accuracy. Usually, when a player forgoes wearing armor, it is to make the game harder for themselves, such as one fan that has been fighting the Elden Ring’s toughest bosses with just the starting club and no other gear. Players in the comments of the video asked other questions about the trick, such as whether it can be used to access other locations in the game.
Some fans had other theories as to how a player could enter Leyndell early. One comment suggested that an Invader could simply bring up the lift into Leyndell for a player. However, it seems that this may be even trickier than using the Ruptured Crystal Tears trick, as invasions are not possible in certain areas of Elden Ring. Also, considering the nature of invasions that often have Elden Ring players dueling to the death, it might take a while to convince an invader to do something helpful for the player.
Elden Ring is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
