So well-received is the game that, along with God of War Ragnarok, Elden Ring pretty much cleaned up at The Game Awards 2022, taking away such accolades as Best Game Direction, Best Role Playing Game, Best Art Direction, and Game of the Year. It’s one of the most successful releases of this generation and even though it’s a modern title, that hasn’t stopped this one channel from seeing what it would look like if Elden Ring had been released two or three decades earlier.

The YouTube channel Rustic Games BR, which specializes in showcasing “demakes” of modern titles, has shown a more retro Elden Ring, with a recent video demonstrating how it would possibly look if it had come out during the original PlayStation’s reign. The four and half minute clip shows the game as many fans have come to understand it, with the Tarnished taking on the likes of Godfrey, only the visuals are much blockier, making it very reminiscent of a bygone era in gaming.
It’s an interesting concept, not only being a fun experiment in turning the clock back on modern videos games, but it also shows just how far the industry has come, especially in terms of development and advances in technology. Other games that have been given the demake treatment include Bioshock Infinite, Resident Evil Village, Bloodborne, The Callisto Protocol, and many more. In fact, there have even been other videos showing what Elden Ring looks like when it’s been demade.
Although the FromSoftware game is immensely popular and critically acclaimed, it didn’t stop The Witcher 3 new-gen release beating out Elden Ring in terms of Metacritic score on PS5. Of course, that doesn’t mean Elden Ring has dropped in people’s eyes, as the Game Awards proves, and no doubt many will be playing it for years to come. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as though Rustic’s PS1-style project is available to play, but it’s a cool video all the same.
Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
