This revelation was made by Todd Howard, Bethesda’s director and executive producer, during a recent episode of the AIAS Game Maker’s Notebook, a podcast made by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences. According to Howard, his own son, who is a fan of the Elder Scrolls series, has asked him for information about the upcoming Elder Scrolls 6, but Howard is unwilling to give anything up.
If Howard is taking the risk of leaks for The Elder Scrolls 6 so seriously that he won’t even reveal information to his own sons, fans can certainly hope that no leaks will spoil the game’s story (or gameplay) before release. Certainly, the studio is well aware that fans are clamoring for news about the much-anticipated title, but no developer wants information about their plans or projects leaked early.
“I’m like, ‘Well, you might, so I’m not gonna say anything.’ But it’s great - I think a lot of kids want to get into video games. If you’re a creator, I kinda want my own sons to find their own way, as opposed to, ‘Yes, you should absolutely make games.’”
It could very well be the case. however, that there isn’t much concrete evidence yet to reveal. It has been stated by Bethesda vice president Pete Hines that Bethesda has two other games planned for release before the company gets to the next Elder Scrolls. Given that Bethesda has yet to reveal even the titles of either of these upcoming projects, Elder Scrolls 6 is likely still a long way off.
In a recent interview, however, Todd Howard did seem to give some hints regarding the development of the studio’s next couple of projects when he revealed that Bethesda was working on a new animation engine.
Fans of The Elder Scrolls will, unfortunately, have to wait for some time for news on the series’ sixth installment, but in the meanwhile, Bethesda recently announced the next major “Chapter” DLC for The Elder Scrolls: Online, entitled Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset. The DLC is planned for release in just a few months’ time, and may provide fans with a much-needed fix of Elder Scrolls content while the long wait for Elder Scrolls 6 news continues.
